Queen Margot

This lavishly produced costume drama has a labyrinthian plot which at times
become tough to follow. (Pay careful attention to the opening prologue.)
Set around the time of the 16th century St Bartholomew's Day Massacre, it
is loosely adapted from a Dumas novel in which a French Catholic princess
is forced to marry a Protestant prince to further a political alliance. The
story unfolds with all manner of treachery, eroticism and intrigue and is
sumptuously mounted with incredible sets and fine acting. Isabel Adjani is
especially luminous in the title role.

Queen of Hearts

An utterly unique concoction from England with substantial helpings of
fantasy and mysticism about an immigrant Italian couple and their family
who run a small cafe; it is bound to remind you of no other film in memory.

Quick Change

Brilliant pacing and a smart plotline fuel this hilarious story about a
bank holdup. In a comedic, Kafkaesque series of events the thieves are
stymied at every turn as they attempt to escape New York with the loot.
Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid are all right-on as the thieves
and Jason Robards does a great turn as the cop trying to nail them. There
are a couple of surreal interludes along the way that initially seem out of
place in a caper comedy but that in the end subside nicely into this story
which as much as anything resembles one of those frustration dreams in
which we can't escape some lurking horror.

Quiz Show

John Turturro in the role of a pissed-off contestant is the reason to watch
this recounting of the game show scandals that rocked America in the 50s.
His twitchy, kvetching performance is the centerpiece of an involving
account of how game shows were rigged in the early days of TV. It goes on a
bit long and occasionally departs from the historic record but stands as a
monument to media malfeasance. Watch for director Martin Scorcese's turn as
a venal show sponsor.
